Samsic's partnership with the Rennes 1 Foundation "Living Together" Chair aims to: develop awareness of the global framework of diversity; welcome and identify how to preserve differences within the workplace; and create a virtuous balance to promote individual and corporate performance. Brigitte Feuillet-Liger, Chair and Law Professor at the Université de Rennes 1, together with her team of researchers and the Chair's partners, including Samsic, will study these CSR topics over the next three years in order to develop innovative solutions.

Commitment to improve the "Living Together" within the company

A job is not simply a source of income for the individual in question: jobs also contribute to our sense of accomplishment and personal development. It is for this reason that Samsic supports the Rennes 1 Foundation "Living Together" Chair with Law Faculty and IGR-IAE Rennes (Graduate School of Management) professors, and four other Breton partner businesses. The project is in line with Samsic's aim to always focus on people.

The project aims to strengthen company cohesion, and encourage colleagues to accept and include each other, and therefore improve collective performance. With this goal in mind, Samsic and Chair members selected two main themes which they intend to develop over the coming months.

Our research focuses on two themes

Discrimination, exclusion and lack of recognition hinder the smooth running of a business; for this reason, the Chair has chosen "differences within the workplace" as its first theme. Taking differences to be a strength could be a solid performance lever. The key questions are: how can differences be accepted, and how can differences be managed daily within a company. Samsic is of the opinion that companies must provide a place for everyone, particularly by contributing to the career development of all employees.

The second chosen theme is "tackling illiteracy" as this is considered to be a basic social skill. Knowing how to support illiterate individuals and helping them to make changes and perceive themselves in a different light is increasingly becoming a company responsibility. The Chair will therefore take concrete actions towards tackling illiteracy together with the CESER* whose recent report, "Illiteracy in the workplace: a shared concern" clearly addresses the issue. Samsic will be able to provide vast experience this area.

The new "Living Together" Chair agenda is already full as numerous events and research have been planned: round tables between businesses, experts and researchers; field investigations to flag up focus areas; and positive business experiences, etc.

The selected themes will not prevent the Chair and its partners, including Samsic, from taking an interest in other subjects related to living together in the workplace. A Rennes 1 Foundation Innovation workshop is already planned on "Digital Technology and Living Together" and, more specifically, on participative digital platforms as a new social media tool within businesses.
